Our role in the North Staffordshire Regiment

Living History Association

Women serving in the ATS were used in noncombatant support roles.  They freed men to fight in defence of Britain.  ATS were not permitted to carry weapons, but performed virtually every other task and taught classes on every subject other than combat.  They worked in ordnance depots, caring for and distributed weapons, uniforms and field gear, operated search lights, radar, lorries and ambulances, and ran offices, kitchens and stores.

Like the ATS in WWII, the ATS of the North Staffordshire Regiment LHA "man" command posts, ordnance depots, motor pools, and offices.  We provide meals, support pay parades, post orders, maintain weapons, and perform many other tasks historically performed by the ATS.
